Tuff Rib metal roofing
Tuff Rib roofing is the ribbed steel panel on shops and barns from Brigham City to Heber, and on more Wasatch Front homes every year. Most of metal's toughness at a price much closer to shingle.

Why Tuff Rib earns its place
Drive any back road in Davis or Weber County and count the metal roofs. Most of them are exposed-fastener panels like Tuff Rib, and there's a reason.

Metal at a working price
The same steel and the same finishes as our premium metal, at a cost much closer to shingle than to standing seam. We'll put the two side by side on your estimate.

Goes on fast
Wide panels cover a roof quickly, which keeps labor down and gets your house closed up sooner, over the same underlayment we put under every roof.

Shops, garages and barns
Outbuildings are where Tuff Rib shines: durable, low-fuss, and easy to match to the house without paying for a premium system.

Shrugs off sun and snow
The altitude sun that cooks asphalt doesn't age steel, and snow slides off instead of sitting on the roof. The panel will outlast several shingle roofs.

Simple to repair
A damaged panel unscrews and a new one goes in its place. No hunting for a discontinued shingle color, no specialty crew.

One honest maintenance item
The screws' rubber washers sit in the sun, so they need a checkup every few years: tighten or replace as needed. That's the trade for the price, and we tell you up front.

Tuff Rib or standing seam?
Both are steel, both outlast asphalt, and both handle Utah weather. The difference is the fasteners: Tuff Rib's screws sit in the sun and need an occasional look, while standing seam hides its clips under the seams and asks for essentially nothing. You're choosing between a lower price with a small maintenance habit and a higher price with none.

Tuff Rib FAQ
What is Tuff Rib?
A ribbed steel panel fastened through the face with screws that carry rubber sealing washers: the classic exposed-fastener metal roof. The raised ribs give the panel its strength and its familiar look.
How much maintenance do the exposed screws need?
A checkup every few years. Sun ages the rubber washers, and temperature swings can slowly back screws out. Catching that early is a quick visit, and we check the fasteners on any free inspection of a metal roof.
Is Tuff Rib only for barns and shops?
Not anymore. It started as the farm panel, but today's finishes have put it on plenty of homes, especially simple rooflines where budget matters. On a complex or very visible roof, standing seam usually earns its premium.
What colors and gauges does it come in?
29-gauge and 26-gauge, in a wide range of colors from charcoal and earth tones to barn red. We'll bring real panel samples to the estimate so you can see the color in your own light.
See metal colors →How does Tuff Rib handle hail?
Steel resists puncture far better than shingle, but big hail can dent any metal panel. Ask your insurance agent how your policy treats cosmetic damage on metal.
Can Tuff Rib go over my existing shingles?
We recommend tearing off first, so we can inspect and repair the decking before new panels go on.
Is a Tuff Rib roof loud in the rain?
Not on a house. Over solid decking and underlayment, rain on metal sounds about like rain on shingle; the drumming comes from panels over open barn framing.
How long does a Tuff Rib roof last?
The panels last decades, well beyond any shingle. The rubber washers under the screws are the part that ages, which is why we check them every few years.
