Standing seam metal roofing
A standing seam roof locks steel panels together and hides the fasteners under the seams, so there's nothing for Utah sun, snow or wind to work loose. It's the longest-lived roof we install.

Why standing seam is the long-game roof
Every metal roof outlasts asphalt. Standing seam outlasts other metal, and the reason is the part you can't see.

Nothing exposed
The clips that hold each panel sit under the seams, out of the sun and weather. No rubber washers to dry out and no screw heads to back out, so the weak points other metal roofs develop aren't there.

One panel, eave to ridge
We roll-form the panels and cut them to length on site, so each one runs from the eave to the ridge without a horizontal joint. The panels float on their clips as Utah's temperature swings expand and shrink the steel.

Made for snow country
Snow sheds instead of loading the roof, and snow guards clamp right onto the seams without a single hole in the panel. It's the roof we'd put on a Heber or Midway home first.

Solar without holes
Solar racking clamps onto the raised seams, so panels go on without drilling the roof. If solar is in your plans, tell us at the estimate and we'll lay out the seams to suit.

A clean, modern line
Tall, crisp seams and long unbroken panels suit a new build, a mountain home or a 1970s rambler alike, in finishes from charcoal to warm bronze.

Decades, not years
With no exposed fasteners to service, a standing seam roof's life is set by its finish, and the finish mellows rather than fails. It's as close to a permanent roof as a house gets.

Who standing seam is for
Standing seam is the premium system, and it's priced like one. It makes the most sense if you plan to stay, if the roof is a big part of how the house looks, or if you want to buy exactly one more roof. If budget leads the conversation, Tuff Rib gives you most of metal's advantages for less.

Standing seam FAQ
What makes standing seam different from other metal roofs?
Two things. The fasteners are hidden: clips sit under the seams instead of screws going through the face. And the panels are roll-formed and cut to length on site, so each one runs from eave to ridge in a single piece. Exposed-fastener panels like Tuff Rib make a good roof; standing seam simply has fewer places to wear.
Is standing seam worth it over Tuff Rib?
If you're staying in the house for the long haul, usually yes: you're paying for a roof with essentially nothing to maintain. If cost leads, or it's a shop or a garage, Tuff Rib gets you most of the way there. We'll tell you which the house actually calls for.
What gauge steel do you use?
24-gauge and 26-gauge. The lower number is the thicker panel, so 24-gauge holds its shape better on long runs and wide panels. Which one your roof needs depends on the span, the exposure and the profile, and we'll explain the choice on your estimate.
How does standing seam handle hail?
Structurally, very well: steel resists puncture far better than shingle. Large hail can leave cosmetic dents on any metal roof, so ask your insurance agent how your policy treats cosmetic damage on metal before you decide.
Is it loud in the rain?
No louder than shingle once it's over solid decking and underlayment, which is how we install every roof. The tin-roof racket comes from panels over open framing, like a barn.
Can you install it over my existing shingles?
We tear off first. A roof meant to last decades should go on a deck we've inspected and repaired, and an overlay hides the deck.
Can I put solar on a standing seam roof?
Yes, and it's one of the best roofs for it. The racking clamps onto the seams, so nothing is drilled through the panels. If your existing panels have to come off for the re-roof, we handle the detach and reset too.
Solar detach & reset →Do I need snow guards?
Over every door, walk and driveway, yes. On standing seam they clamp onto the seams, so they don't put a single hole in the roof.
